Start times set for first three Husker games

The University of Nebraska announced start times for the first three games of the 2011 football season, so fans with Husker tickets now can make tailgating plans for the first month of the upcoming season.
The season opener for Nebraska against Tenessee-Chattanooga on Sept. 3 will kick off at 2:30 p.m., as will the Sept. 17 matchup at home against Washington. Nebraska's Sept. 10 battle with Fresno State will start at 6 p.m.
At the present time, only one of those three games has a solid network home. The Washington game will be seen on ABC, but will be a regional telecast. Those regions who don't get the game on ABC will be able to see the game on ESPN. Network plans for the first two games have yet to be determined by the university.
The announcement means that only four games on the Huskers' 2011 football schedule have firm starting times. Game times and TV designation for home games with Michigan State on Oct. 29 and Northwestern on Nov. 5 have not been set, as have games at Penn State on Nov. 12 and Michigan on Nov. 19. Five other games have times and TV plans, including Sept. 24 at Wyoming (6:30 p.m., Versus), Oct. 1 at Wisconsin (7 p.m., ABC/ESPN/ESPN2), Oct. 8 vs. Ohio State (7 p.m., ABC/ESPN/ESPN2), Oct. 22 at Minnesota (2:30 p.m., ABC) and Nov. 25 vs. Iowa (11 a.m., ABC).

Huskers' first two Big Ten games on TV

The Big Ten Conference has announced its TV schedule for the 2011 season, and fans with Husker tickets will be able to see a couple of Nebraska football games under the lights this season.
The Huskers open the Big Ten portion of their schedule on the road on Saturday, Oct. 1, as they take on the always-tough Wisconsin Badgers. It will be Nebraska's first trip to Madison since 1974, when they lost a 21-20 heartbreaker during Tom Osborne's second season as coach of the Huskers.
The following Saturday, the Huskers host their first-ever Big Ten Conference matchup, and they will take on perennial conference power Ohio State, who will be making their first-ever visit to Lincoln to take on the Huskers. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 29, 1956, when the Huskers traveled to Ohio and came up on the short end of a 34-7 decision.
Both games will be televised on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. Game times for both matchups will be 7 p.m. Central time.

Nebraska vs. SDSU to be televised

Fans with Husker tickets will need to note a change in the start time to next week's non-conference finale between Nebraska and South Dakota State.
Fox Sports Midwest will televise the game on a pay-per-view basis, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. It will be the third time in four games that the Huskers have played on a pay-per-view telecast.

Huskers' first two games to be on pay-per-view

If you have Husker tickets for the 2010 football season, you'll enjoy the first two games along with a pay-per-view audience.
The University of Nebraska announced Friday that the Husker football team will kick off the 2010 season under the lights with a 6 p.m. matchup against Western Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 4.
The following week, the Huskers will be back in action on pay-per-view with a late-morning kickoff against Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11:30 a.m.
As it stands, the only non-conference game guaranteed to be on regular TV will be the Huskers' Sept. 18 matchup against Washington in Seattle. That game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CDT and be shown on the ABC network.

Huskers leaving Big 12 for Big 10 in 2011

College sports may never be the same after the Husker athletic program makes its move to the Big 10 Conference.
The decision to make the move was approved by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, which unanimously approved a resolution announcing the school's intention to leave the Big 12 Conference at the end of the coming school year.
Nebraska's move was necessitated by school officials' concerns about the health of the Big 12 Conference. Chancellor Harvey Perlman said the school could not be guaranteed the long-term status of the conference with the talk of conference shifts. He said Texas could not guarantee that it would share in future TV revenue, as there has been talk of the school forming its own revenue-generating TV network.
By moving to the Big 10, the Husker athletic program will receive the same amount of money it would get if it stayed in the Big 12 in 2011-12, and would eventually receive a full share of the mega-conference's revenue, which is expected to double that the Husker athletic department currently receives. If the conference expands to include schools like Rutgers or Notre Dame, that amount could rise considerably.
While the decision to move to the Big 10 is mainly a football decision, the move will have a positive impact on all Husker athletic programs. Nebraska will enjoy top-notch competition in sports like volleyball and basketball, and could become an instant contender in baseball. They will also face quality competition in other sports, like wrestling and track and field, and will also be a part of what is arguably the premier academic-oriented conference in the nation.
This will be the final year that Husker athletics will be involved in the Big 12, so Husker tickets will be a hot property for Nebraska fans this coming school year.
