When it comes to Big Ten tickets, few match the history and tradition of the Ohio State Buckeyes. And you can get great Husker tickets to see two of college football’s all-time great programs match up when the Huskers face the Buckeyes on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium.
Nebraska's first home game as a member of the Big Ten Conference is a program that rivals Nebraska in history and excellence. Ohio State will visit Lincoln on Saturday, Oct. 8, in a 7 p.m. matchup that will no doubt be a memorable one for fans and players alike.
Ohio State has been one of the kingpins of the Big Ten Conference from the beginning. Their all-time record heading into the season of 819-308-53 compares favorably among the top programs of all time. They have won 34 conference titles and seven national championships – the most recent in 2002 – and boast 175 first-team All-Americans, seven Heisman Trophy winners (including the only back-to-back winner, Archie Griffin), five Lombardi Trophy winners and four Outland Trophy winners.
Ohio State's football history runs even deeper, with numerous players going on to the NFL and eight Buckeye alums being named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Among the former Ohio State players are one of the game's legendary coaches and trendsetters, Paul Brown, who coached the Cleveland Browns to the NFL title and brought the Cincinnati Bengals into existence in the old American Football League. Also among the Hall of Famers from Ohio State is current Pittsburgh Steelers defensive guru Dick LeBeau, as well as legendary coach Sid Gillman, kicker Lou Groza and wide receiver Paul Warfield.
Nebraska and Ohio State have met just twice in the teams' histories, with the Buckeyes winning both matchups in 1955 (28-20) and 1956 (34-7). Of the Big Ten schools Nebraska has played in its long football history, Ohio State is the only current Big Ten Conference school that has never lost to the Huskers.
Last year's Ohio State team shared the Big Ten Conference championship and played in the Sugar Bowl, where they held off Arkansas for a 31-26 victory. While the win capped an outstanding 12-1 season, the offseason was full of controversy that rocked the Buckeye program.
Allegations of excessive benefits that included tattoos, cars and money ultimately led to the sudden departure of longtime coach Jim Tressel, who guided the Buckeyes to the 2002 national championship and had brought Ohio State football back into national prominence. The program was turned over in June to interim coach Luke Fickell, a former Buckeye player who had been an assistant with Ohio State since 2002, moving from special teams coordinator to co-defensive coordinator before assuming the duties as head coach.
So far, Ohio State hasn't missed a beat this season. With impressive wins over Miami (Fla.) and Colorado on their resume, the Buckeyes are making a statement as a team to watch in the Leaders Division of the Big Ten. They will be making their first-ever visit to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., and already the interest in this game is at a level rarely seen before, even from the days Nebraska matched up against teams like Texas, Oklahoma or even Notre Dame in Memorial Stadium.
As is has been since 1962, Nebraska's home game against Ohio State has been declared a sellout. But that doesn't mean tickets aren't available – in fact, you can get great seats to see the Huskers take on the Buckeyes right now.
