It's often been said that the quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
Fans with Husker tickets are going to notice a team with a stronger overall chemistry in years past as the Nebraska football team gets ready for the 2011 season, which opens Sept. 3 when the Huskers host Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Part of the team's chemistry building has come through summer workouts and group get-togethers among running backs, defensive linemen and tight ends. Another came in the form of a team cookout, where all 140 members ponied up $5 a head to enjoy a barbecue of burgers, brats and chicken.
During the Big Ten Media Days, the Lincoln Journal Star reported on the team cookout, and senior defensive Jared Crick told reporters that he felt the team was closer than any in the nation.
"I'd like to see another team come up and tell me their team is closer than ours," he told the Journal Star.
The cookout idea seems to have paid off, as Crick said the players are closer as a unit, and more a brotherhood than a football team. The team has also developed with weekly games of Laser tag and other fun events.
The team building exercises should pay off, and fans will get a great opportunity to see the Husker football team on the field this season with seven home games and fun road trips to Wyoming, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
