Zac Lee threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Husker football team to a convincing 38-9 win over Arkansas State on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, putting the Huskers at 2-0 heading into a big road game this week at Virginia Tech.
Nebraska played a much better all-around game Saturday, although the Red Wolves were able to run the ball much better than expected. The Husker offense had 490 yards in total offense compared to 272 by the visitors from the Sun Belt Conference.
Niles Paul had a big day for the Husker squad, bringing in a career-high six receptions for 69 yards and scoring his first touchdown via the air this year. He also had a 30-yard touchdown run on a nifty reverse play as the Huskers dominated the first half and went on to the easy win in front of the 299th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium.
The Husker defense showed a little more fire on Saturday afternoon, even though the Red Wolves' ground game was able to make some good-sized gains. Nebraska was able to shut down Arkansas State throughout much of the game, with the Red Wolves making just one big play that led to their only touchdown of the day.
The 19th-ranked Huskers hit the road for the first time this week, as they travel to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech. The Hokies started the year as a top 10 team before opening with a loss to Alabama. They carry a No. 13 ranking into this weekend's matchup.
