Offense knows how to put up numbers
The Aggies have put up some big numbers over the past two years, and have the tools in place to do it again in 2008 with Chase Holbrook returning at quarterback. Holbrook threw for 3,866 yards and 26 touchdowns last year and averaged over 320 yards per game in the air while completing 70 percent of his passes.
He has some great receivers to work with, led by A.J. Harri (81 catches, 611 yards, 2 TD) and Chris Williams (56 catches, 772 yards, 11 TD). The Aggies will stretch the field through the air, and that could open things up for returning running back Tonny Glynn (487 yds., 4 TD).
Defense needs a lot of work
New Mexico State's defense really struggled last year, especially down the stretch when the Aggies lost their final four games. Giving up over 36 points and 430 yards per game will not do, and coach Hal Mumme brought in defensive guru Joe Lee Dunn to change to a blitz-oriented defense. Derrick Richardson (108 total tackles) leads the returning starters on defense for the Aggies.
Could be an interesting team
Mumme knows how to coach high-flying offenses, as the Aggies have shown over the last few years. If they can get their defensive problems figured out (sound familiar?), the Aggies could be heading to their first bowl game in almost a half-century.
